One time a year, it’s perfectly acceptable to send your kids into the lap of a strange man to get that coveted photo. We encourage them to tell this magical man their every wish and if they’ve been good or bad. In return they get a candy cane. I know my 3-year old well enough to have avoided this visit for the last three years. This year I thought I could get him to do it with his little brother who had just turned 1. Well…
We arrived at the mall to find a line of kids crying and parents bribing. That’s definitely not a judgment—I was one of them. My older son said he was going to do it, but when the time came, he froze and wouldn’t get any closer than 8 feet away from Santa. So, my defenseless 1-year old was on his own and you can see how well that turned out. I’m beginning to think my 3-year old may be the smartest person in our family!
