Lesson #1: I know I’ve said it before, but there’s something pretty special about dads. I remember my mom saying that when we were little, my dad would turn things we didn’t want to do into a game to make them seem like more fun. This week I was in awe sitting back watching Lenny do the same thing at bath time. Within seconds two whining boys were giggling and in the tub. No yelling. No eye rolling. No deep sighs. Magic.
Lesson #2: If you hand over your new Taylor Swift CD to your kids, don’t expect to see it again for a week. Do expect them to know most of the lyrics by the time you get to listen to it.
Lesson #3: When your shy guy is warming up to the other boys at a birthday party, using your overly sweet nicknames like “Honey Bun” and “Lovey” doesn’t help the situation.
Lesson #4: When life hands you day-light-savings time, make conversation. Since the one clock we didn’t change in the house was the one in Big’s room that turns green at 6:30am to let him know he can come get us, it was a 5:30am wake-up call for me. I cuddled into Big’s bed and we chatted and laughed about our weekend fun. While I did miss that hour of sleep, I’m so glad I didn’t miss that moment with Big.
Lesson #5: There’s nothing like puddle jumping after being cooped up inside on a rainy day.
Here’s to a giggly, be-bopping, embarrassment-free week. May you cherish the unexpected moments and make a splash!
Hey! That pic looks exactly like what we did yesterday. When we got home every stitch of clothing came off because it was soaked. But they loved it!
Oh yeah, immediately following this fun was a long soak in the tub. I don’t know how they made it around the entire neighborhood drenched, but I do know they were smiling the whole way. Glad to hear your boys got in on the fun too!
