In a rare twist, I’ve found that all five of my lessons this week were baby related. Apparently the boys took it easy on me (and my drawstring pants).

Lesson #1: When you’re feeling at your lowest of lows, but everywhere you go people are smiling at you, you can’t help but feel better. And when you break out of your fog to realize it’s the baby in the Bjorn that’s attracting such positive energy, you love her even more (if that’s possible).

Lesson #2: When you’re 3-1/2 months old, dimples are cute no matter where they are.

Lesson #3: With the first (and maybe even second) baby, milestones include things like baby push ups, babble sounds and rolling over. Days are spent pouring over What to Expect in the First Year, The Baby Book and Babycenter. By the third, milestones include getting to the bus stop with 1 out of 4 people dressed and showering a couple times a week (extra credit for remembering to bathe the baby too). In fact, I realized the other day that all our “baby manuals” are in the attic. But somehow Pink seems to be doing just fine without them. (Though both of us could use a lot more tummy time!)

Lesson #4: As I’ve been trying to ease back into my old wardrobe (though there’s been nothing easy about it this time around), I realized that I might have accidentally given away half my non-maternity clothes. And now I’m wishing I’d given away the other half too.

Lesson #5: While it’s a real thrill to know that I make people laugh enough for a (wonderful) reader to nominate me for Parents Magazine‘s Funniest Mom Blog category, nothing can beat the feeling of making Pink laugh for the first time. (Ok, it was really Little who made it happen, but I made him, so I deserve at least a little credit, right?) (Oh, and since you asked, yes, you can still vote for me…but just one not-too-time-consuming time. Thanks to those of you who have already voted and brought me within a few votes of the Top 10 already! My apologies to those of you who have tried and encountered problems with the site. It’s been spotty in my experience. But we all deserve a second chance, right?)

Here’s to a week of smile-induced dimples! (Though my week may have a few tears as Little starts preschool. Question is, will they be mine or his? Stay tuned for what’s sure to be a dramatic conclusion!)

I smiled the very second I saw Pinks happy little face…and so, your mission is accomplished!
When I read your posts, have to tell you just how many memories come back to me.
When Christine was 4 and, Paul was 2, we brought Craig home from the hospital…much like you!
And, 4 years later…Brian!…A journey like no other…and, it’s not over yet!

Oh my gosh—love those cheeks!!! Love your lesson #1!! It fits perfectly with a link up we are doing called Be Enough Me—would be honored if you would link up and share your joy! We are also doing a campaign where for every 20 linked posts that have a Be Enough Me message, Bellflower Books is giving a memory book to a woman fighting breast cancer…..so not only would people love your story, but it would be philanthropic! 🙂

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and reach out, Elena. I’ll link up now and look forward to doing more along the way. It sounds like our general approach is similar, so no doubt I’ll have more posts that relate! And knowing it’s helping women fighting breast cancer is even better!
