While it was the kids’ last week of vacation, it felt like anything but vacation to me. Don’t get me wrong, we had lots of fun. But wow, that felt like way more than 2-1/2 weeks. Didn’t it?

Lesson #1: If you’re looking to reenact the insane sledding scene from Christmas Vacation, dress your kid in synthetic sweat pants and head to the tallest slide in your area on a wet, foggy day. In our case, the only thing missing was the flames. Then again, the slide was enclosed, so maybe there were flames after all…

Lesson #2: Having a new baby has greatly improved Little’s ability to openly and honestly communicate. About Pink’s feelings, that is. He told me Pink thinks I look like a witch when I yell. She also doesn’t like me anymore. She only likes Daddy. Honestly, I don’t blame him her.

Lesson #3: It’s now officially gross when Lenny kisses me goodbye. Even on the forehead.

Lesson #4: Dads really don’t care if people think their kids are the cutest, smartest, most polite, well behaved, clean children around.

Lesson #5: The Chipmunks were obviously not invented by a parent—and the playlist was not approved by one. As if listening to Lady Gaga sing Bad Romance for a year wasn’t bad enough…

Lesson #6: The baby-ate-the-grocery-list excuse, while true, doesn’t hold up with even the youngest family members come dinner time.

Lesson #7: Thanks to vacation and dark mornings, we’ve gotten a taste of sleeping til a decent hour (sometimes even 7am!) and it’s sweet. So sweet.

Lesson #8-10: After 2-1/2 weeks of fun, exhausting, adventurous, lazy, celebratory, quality time with the boys on vacation, we’re all ready for school to start again (except for the early wake-up call). And by “we’re all ready”, I mean Pink and me.

Happy week to all and to all a good night!

It never changes…when they’re young, you relish the sleeping in and time to explore together so many new things in life, and yet you long to return to the normal routine. When they’re in college, you can’t wait for them to come home……then, can’t wait for them to go.

Too funny! I hope you had a great time with your visitor over the break. Look forward to catching up once we’re back into a routine ourselves!

I definitely think the Chipmunks creators and the Barney creators are in cahoots to annoy the ba-jee-zus out of parents.

And oh how I love sleeping in this year – this is THE benefit of PM kindergarten… next year is going to be rough.

Happy New Year and Happy Back-to-school part deaux!

Oh, afternoon kindergarten sounds perfect for people with kids who sleep. Since Big is usually up before 6am, the early morning is just what he needs. Not me, but him.

Happy New Year to the Hoff-Family!

These are all terrific. My favorite is Little’s emotional awakening. Classic. These tiny people are so, so smart.

Far smarter than I am, it seems.
