Recently I was thinking, “Hey, I have an idea for a post that I bet nobody has ever done before.” This isn’t it. Of course there are tons of Mother’s Day gift guides out there, but who am I to deprive you of cool stuff just because other people are doing it? Here are some things that I’ve come across lately that I would love to get come May 13th. Along with a bright hat made of coffee filters and an advanced stick figure portrait of myself, of course. (And yes, Lenny will probably read this since he signed up to have posts emailed to him—right over there in that “subscribe” box to the right, see it?) Please do share your wishlist or favorite gifts from past years in the comments as well!

For the Mom With an Eye for Design

The artist behind ShalkBoards happens to be a lovely friend of my parents, but I promise I’m not biased when I say I think my designer friends will absolutely love these. They’re original acrylic paintings that have been specially treated so chalk adheres to them. What a fun way to personalize a work of art. Welcome guests, wish your kids happy birthday, display your appetizer menu, share a favorite quote—or just leave it blank and enjoy.

For the Mom With a Sweet Tooth and a Big Heart

Grandma Vonnie’s Cookies is the creation of a local woman who wanted to honor her grandmother’s love of baking, as well as her struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. When you indulge in her chocolatey, nutty, oat-y goodness, a portion of the proceeds goes toward Alzeheimer’s research.

For the Mom Who Just Can’t Manage the Journal/Baby Book Thing

The Journal 10+ gives you just enough room to write a couple quick thoughts about the day. You don’t have to write well, scrapbook or take much time to capture milestones so you can look back and see what was happening that day a year, two, three, or even ten years ago.

For the Mom Who Embraces Her Natural Beauty

Nassim Naturals is a line of skin-care products created by a woman who’s passionate about moms and babies. After doing all kinds of research on why mainstream products weren’t working for her, she decided to create lotions, balms and creams made of natural plants and high-quality therapeutic grade essential oils. Since I have allergies to perfumes, I loved that the ones I sampled (Moisture Balm and Happy Belly Lotion) had a very subtle or no fragrance…and the packaging is adorable!

For the Mom Who’s a Social (Media) Butterfly

These Survival of the Hippest bracelets, necklaces, etc were all the rage at Bloggy Boot Camp and I’ve been wanting one ever since. Don’t you think I’d look better with @usingourwords around my neck? (HINT: Click the bird on the home page to get the VIP discount!)

For the Mom Who Needs Help in the Kitchen
Cristie at Real Life Wellness has developed all kinds of programs to help women feed themselves—and their families—much healthier foods in real-life, sustainable ways. She’s not only fun to talk to, she’s researched awesome recipes, helps people navigate the grocery aisles and has great tips for getting kids to eat their veggies. Yes, really.

And Savory Pear offers cooking classes—with childcare!—in San Francisco. Use coupon code “usingourwords” to get 15% off.

For the Mom Who Needs a Bit of R & R

For a couple oh-so-lovely celebrations, Lenny sent me to a hotel for Mother’s Day eve. All. By. Myself. (When I was local, they even went ahead of time and left indulgent snacks and magazines!) I got to read, shop, eat and, most importantly, sleep. Then, on Mother’s Day morning, they met me for breakfast and a day of fun (one time in SF, one time at the local hotel pool). Heavenly.

For Any and Every Mom

Liftis a lovely book about motherhood written by, you guessed it, Kelly Corrigan. It will make you smile, cry and appreciate those little lives you hold in the palm of your hand.

Any other fun ideas? Please do share!

Disclosure: Though I was sent samples of Nassim Naturals and the Journal 10+ and I’ve included Amazon affiliate links in this post, all opinions are my own. All photos are my own or were used with permission from the companies highlighted.

Wonder if I could get away with a Hoffmom necklace….? Or better yet, a Hoffdad tie clip for Matt for Father’s day?

And for sure you’re getting a #WWFMD pendant, right?!?!?! 😉
