Between the chill in the air and the short days, getting cozy on the couch with some pizza and a bottle of wine sounds just about as good as a Friday night gets. Yes, it’s been awhile, but Pizza & Wine Friday is back. And honestly, Stacked Wines is that thank for that.

I’m embarrassed to say, I don’t remember exactly how I happened upon this wine, but I do know Twitter was involved. I saw it and I couldn’t get over the brilliant concept. Here’s the deal. Stacked is the equivalent of a bottle of wine, but it’s packaged in four separate glass-sized servings. Each one can be opened on its own so the others stay fresh. Brilliant. Really.

I keep thinking of all the occasions Stacked Wines are perfect for. Concerts in the park or picnics. A night when you just want a glass, but don’t want to waste a bottle that will go bad sitting on the counter for days. A gift exchange or a hostess gift. When you’re hosting a friend who tends to pour more than her fair share in the glass. (In other words, me.) The list goes on and on.

Cool concept, no doubt. But how’s the wine? Well, Lenny and I enjoyed the Merlot with our pizza last Friday. It was surprisingly good — similar in quality as regular bottles of the same price point. We also both found the drinking experience to be good. The plastic cup is sturdy and isn’t sharp around the edge. I shared the Chardonnay with a couple girlfriends and we agreed that it was on the fruity side, which meant I really enjoyed it. Pinot Grigio, in general, doesn’t tend to be my favorite, and it was definitely my #3 of the options, but that came as no surprise to me.

While Stacked Wines are only available in stores in Southern California at the moment, it can be purchased online here. Their team assures me that they’re actively expanding and hope to be in more locations in early 2013.

Happy Friday, and, of course, cheers!

Disclosure: Stacked Wines sent me these wines for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
