I remember when I first fell in love. It was at my first job out of college. (Well, my second job really, but I like to block out my first job because it was a disaster. Though I did get really skinny since I didn’t have time to eat. So there was that.) Anyway, at first I didn’t realize what I was getting into. It was a casual relationship, just part of the job really. But somewhere along the line, it became so much more. An obsession, some might even say. That’s right, my friends, I fell hard for Sharpies. Fine tip ones, to be exact.
And, it seems, that’s not where my love of office supplies begins and ends. Nice heavy paper, ink cartridges full of possibility, good old-fashioned snail-mail address labels. Swoon.
I get it, not everyone understands my passion. But everyone has stuff they need. (If you ask Lenny, I could spend some serious time in the file aisle.) So signing up for the new Office Depot Rewards program is a no-brainer — especially with the end-of-summer countdown moving all too fast.
Their points-based system will have you earning 10 points for every dollar you spend on print/copy/ship products, and you can also receive points for recycling. You can redeem your points each month and you’ll receive exclusive member promotions. As you shop, you can personalize your benefits based on your preferences, receiving customized promotions for your choice of two of the three categories — loyal customers, Star Teachers, and local businesses.
Once you spend 2,000 points in a quarter, you’ll not only impress everyone with your awesome collection of goodies, you’ll become a choice member and can choose five of the thirty categories to receive points on the following quarter (think writing instruments — yes, please!, desks, classroom decorations, etc.). You know what I like, if you want to buy something for me as a thank you for the heads up. I can’t find my blue one since Little went a bit crazy with it…
Be sure to sign up for the Office Depot Rewards program (click here!) before you dive in to school shopping. Checking off those fun lists of stuff your kids need will be a lot more entertaining — and beneficial — if you do. And get some fine-tip goodness — or whatever it is you love — for yourself while you’re there. You deserve it!
And, to all of my uber-talented and hardworking teacher friends, be sure to check out the Office Depot Teacher Appreciation Week events in your area. If you’re on the peninsula, the East Palo Alto store is hosting the event this Saturday (8/3) from 9-11. Next Saturday (8/10) San Carlos and Mountain View will be hosting the fun from 9-11am.
What’s your office supply weakness? Come on, ‘fess up…
