In case you missed it, last week I wrote about how I’m going to approach BlogHer ’14—which kicks off tomorrow—with an all-in attitude. I went so far as to title the post Bring It On BlogHer ’14. And you know what? Things started happening.
One of the major sponsors of the event, Skype, had reached out to me asking me to be one of a few Skype Moment Makers during the conference. (Why me? Why ask?) All I have to do is be my passionate self, and they’ll feature my social media posts in their social channels as well. (If you don’t speak social, that means they’ll post my pictures in their Instagram account and my tweets in their Twitter feed.)
Be myself? Hey, I can do that.
I said yes.
But then they came back with more. Another totally different opportunity. They asked if I’d like to do a Skype interview with Silicon Valley mastermind, Guy Kawasaki. It would be posted on the BlogHer conference site as well as in the Skype YouTube channel. This? Well, this was pushing the limits of my comfort zone. I’m not an on-camera kind of gal.
But I said I would be all in. Hey, I can do this.
I said yes.
So last Wednesday afternoon, I got the chance to sit down and chat with the very engaging, inspiring Guy Kawasaki. No doubt he could tell I was new at this, but he went easy on me. And, I don’t want to brag, but I kinda think I nailed the 5 minutes of smiling and nodding. (Let’s face it, nobody’s tuning in to listen to me…except my kids who laughed through the whole thing.) You can’t even tell that my cheeks were shaking, right? (Shh.)
Well, tomorrow the conference kicks off with a please-wear-your-yoga-pants-for-reals sangria party. (See?! This is why I blog!) I’ll be tweeting and ‘gramming up a storm through Saturday night. (Did I mention Rev Run of Run DMC is going to be in charge of the closing party dance floor? With my assistance, of course. And there will be Happy Meals with no kids to steal my fries?)
If you’re interested in following my adventures, I’d love to hear from you along the way. Be sure to follow me on Instagram (@usingourwords) and Twitter (also @usingourwords … makes it easy, right?), and keep an eye out for the hashtags #BlogHer14 and #SkypeMoments (@SkypeMoments is their handle). And if you haven’t yet, please like my Facebook page too. (Chances are my posts won’t show up in your feed unless you comment and like things often though, so you know, feel free to do that…)
I promise to get back to the stuff I’m good at next week, but thanks for indulging me in this new fun for a few days!
Disclosure: I’m being compensated for my work as a Skype Moment Maker at BlogHer ’14. This is not a sponsored post and all opinions here and in social media channels at BlogHer ’14 are my own.
Very cool opportunity! You did a great job!
And you will now be my forever friend for saying so. Thank you!
You did fantastic! And you look beautiful!
See, I knew I liked you for a reason… Thanks, my friend! It’s funny, you think you look and sound a certain way, but then you see yourself from a different angle and hear your voice come out of a speaker and YIKES! 🙂
Just listened to this… I learned something new… Guy plays ice hockey too! I like him even more than I did before. Fun interview.
He’s local, so keep an eye out for him on the ice!
Nicely done, Amy!
Thanks so much, Linda!
