In the back-to-school madness, it’s kind of a miracle I remember my own name. Luckily Pink’s helping out by calling me “Amy” these days since she sees herself as more of my peer now. You see, she’s been a really dedicated, work-from-home mom to all her babies while her brothers are at school, so she gets me. I hope you’ll get me after reading some of these too…

Lesson #1: If you don’t have a piggy bank yet, the most logical place to store the dollar bill your Nana gave you is in the freezer.

Lesson #2: You know it’s been a good road-trippin’ summer when your purse looks like a Happy Meal display case by the first day of school.

Lesson #3: Proof that college football season is about to start? The secret ingredient for Lenny’s famous guacamole arrived this week. In bulk.

Lesson #4: Then again, if you ask Big and Little, college football season is already going strong. Thanks to a few rolls of washi tape and two tenacious boys, UCLA has been taking on Arizona in our garage at the Rose Bowl all weekend. I’m not gonna lie, they’re both looking like champions.

Lesson #5: When your kid’s already spent time in the nurse’s office because he’s too “sick” for school by the third day, you know you’re in for a rocky start to kindergarten.

Lesson #6: If you’re wondering what Pink’s baby doll’s daddy does on his business trips to Barbie Santa, he just lays in the sand. Which, by the way, is not at all what Lenny does when he goes on his business trips to Santa Barbara. Or is it…?

Lesson #7: My intensive research shows that it takes 8-1/2 years of hounding your child to appreciate all you do for him for sincere, unprompted gratitude to kick in. And it’s totally worth the constant nagging wait.

Lesson #8: Pink’s not the only family member who’s part dog. I woke up about 3 minutes before the earthquake hit in the middle of the night. Fortunately I refrained from barking, so the kids didn’t even stir.

Lesson #9: If you’re gonna play “doctor” with Little, be warned, he’s a realist. And, “Well, shots hurt!” I’m afraid Pink learned that one the hard—and rather painful—way.

Lesson #10: It’s official. I need to get back to my regular exercise routine.
